Antique French Art Nouveau Edelweiss Silver Sliding Pocket Mirror Pendant

An exquisite example of Belle Époque vanity ware, this antique French pocket mirror pendant dates to the Art Nouveau period (circa 1890–1910). The oval, solid silver case features a striking, high-relief repoussé design of Edelweiss flowers—the historic Alpine symbol of purity, devotion, and courage. The botanical motif is designed beautifully with flowing, organic stems and whiplash lines characteristic of the Art Nouveau movement. Designed as a functional "objet de vertu", the front cover seamlessly slides or pivots open to reveal an interior vanity mirror historically used for quick touch-ups at formal gatherings. The top suspension loop is adorned with a delicate, integral five-petal flower charm and this is where the boars head hallmarks appear to indicate 800 silver purity.
